Mirror (on) Mirror, on the Wall

Gambar
Earlier this week, I mentioned the mirror-on-mirror idea as a possibility for my $100 bathroom update . I thought I would share some inspiration images where this has been done right!: Tricia Huntley via Better Homes and Gardens Kelley Proxmire via via Carter & Co. Veranda magazine via La Dolce Vita What do you guys think of this look? I read a tip from designer Tricia Huntley (who designed the first image) on Apartment Therapy to use a small i-hook and fishing wire to achieve this look in a rental. I am worried that it won't be strong enough though...my mirror is pretty heavy! Happy Weekend! xo To read the rest of my tips for Making a Rental Feel like Home, check out my article with Click Here!

Pop of Yellow: My Tivoli Radio

Gambar
(Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post, I just really love it) One sweet thing about M. is that he likes to surprise me. Take the time a copy of Elle Decor showed up at my door. Unbeknownst to me, he signed me up for a year subscription.  Another prime example is this little Tivoli Radio in  the happiest yellow, which was a 'just because' gift. Not only does it look perfect (I love the retro vibe) in my space, it also hooks up to my ipod/iphone/laptop and has excellent sound quality. Truth be told, M. said he was tired of listening to music off my 'crappy' laptop speakers while he was here. I have to admit, music sounds so much better coming from this little yellow box, and now I always have music playing in the background while I work on renderings and designs. A home filled with music is a happy and inspiring home! Big thanks to M. for this gift that brings me joy each day! You're the best. xox To read the rest of my tips for Making a Rental Feel like Home, ch

Record Collection Goodness

Gambar
As I mentioned in this post , M. has a pretty extensive record collection. I thought it might be fun to do a round up of attractive record collection ideas for other vinyl lovers. I think I might be turning into one myself. I just love the sound of the needle meeting the vinyl and the crackling once the record is done. (Disclaimer: I let M. preview this post and he pointed out that the first image is books and magazines, not records....but I love the style in the shot and records in those boxes would be so cool, so it stays). via Dwell via Apartment Therapy via Apartment Therapy ^M. also says that it is not good to stack records on top of eachother like this as it can warp them. Who knew?! via Carolina Iriarte via Apartment Therapy via Because Light The Selby via Desire to Inspire via The Everygirl Do you have a record collection? How do you store your records? Switching out the Lights - Making a Rental Feel Like Home

Gambar
With Labour Day over, it feels like the summer is coming to a close (although, full disclosure, I'm heading to a cottage for the week to try and stretch out every last bit of summer fun I can). While feeling sad about summer ending (it's been such a blast!), I'm also accompanied by that old, familiar September feeling of wanting to renew my energy and pour my efforts into work and progress. So here I am, writing a post. I recently (okay, not that recently...in January - eek time flies!) wrote an article for Flare.com outlying 10 Ways to Turn Your Rental into a Real Home.    One of my top tips is to change out your light fixtures. Let's be honest, Light fixtures in apartments are notoriously bad (hello boob lights!) and this is a pretty easy fix. The fixture over my dining table actually wasn't horrible (although it was quite dirty) but wasn't right for the rest of my decor. It has more of a mid-century vibe, and my furnishings, and the bones of the apartment its

Red Walls: Yes or No?

Gambar
As I look around my apartment, I realize I have absolutely no red in my space. I think red is tricky. I also think it can be fabulous (see this post about how Jenny of Little Green Notebook does tomato red so right), but I'll admit I'm intimidated by it. Are you guys watching Nate Berkus's new show American Dream Builders? After Elaine's misstep with her red grass cloth walls, and Nate's declaration that he HATES red, although he has seen amazing red rooms, I decided to hunt down some red rooms that I think are done rather well. On this search I came across many horrible red rooms, but in the end, this round up proves that the bold risk of red, when done right, can really pay off. Jamie Meares via High Gloss Magazine Donald Robertson via Domino Bibi Monnahan via Elle Decor via Little Green Notebook via Lonny Cath Kidston via Lonny Colour theory tells us that red is associated with richness, power, passion, energy, anger, love, and danger - to name a few. Red is cle

Old Parquet - Yay or nay?

Gambar
One thing that I love to do in my spare time is apartment hunt online. Is that weird since I have no immediate plans of moving?....Probably. Hopefully by next summer I will be getting a new rental (with my very own kitchen that I don't have to share with five other girls), and I love seeing what my predicted budget will get me. Most of the apartments I'm drawn to (and can afford) have one thing in common....old, square parquet flooring. If you had shown me this a few years ago, I would have cringed, but now, I don't mind it at all! I actually kind of like it. Think about the craftsmanship and time to install that! There is something kind of charming about it and miles better than the laminate I have in my current rental. via Lonny Mag May/June 2011 Michelle Adams via Decor8 Michelle Adams via Decor8 Elle Decor UK via Lee Stanton Blog So what do you think? Has parquet flooring come back into style? Or do you still consider it outdated? xox To read the rest of my tips for Mak

Pink Houses

Gambar
For my studio project this term, we are designing a boutique hotel in an old Victorian mansion, complete with corner tower. In my hunt for some inspiration for the exterior, I came across some pretty stunning pink houses. Although this is not direction we are taking our hotel, it most certainly is the direction that I am taking my daydreaming this Monday morning! Enjoy! via via via via via via Elizabeth Anne Designs  It's my dream to live in a century home such as a Victorian. While I'm not sure I would paint it pink, it is fun to daydream! xox To read the rest of my tips for Making a Rental Feel like Home, check out my article with Click Here!

Holy Chic: Cute and Affordable Graphic Tees

Gambar
Holy Chic you guys! I have been wanting some graphic tees for awhile now, and I just found the cutest ones from Old Navy Canada ! Best part? The website is currently offering 20% off orders over $100 (25% if you are in the US !) until tomorrow, making these tees just under $12 each. Graphic tees are so versatile! They can be paired with jeans, an a-line midi skirt, even a pencil skirt! I couldn't believe these were Old Navy! They feel very JCrew, no? I have a feeling these are going to fly off the shelf, so get yours while you can! (I myself, bought all four...ooops!). This is not a sponsored post, I just loved these tees and wanted to share! xox To read the rest of my tips for Making a Rental Feel like Home, check out my article with Click Here!

Lilac and Gold

Gambar
I was flipping through the September issue of Style at Home Magazine and was stopped in my tracks by a beautiful lilac and gold bathroom. I know not everyone is feeling this year's 'Radiant Orchid', but this subdued version of the hue paired with both aged and polished brass is really speaking to me. I was even more delighted when I realized it was done by local Toronto designer, Tara Fingold , whom I've had the pleasure of meeting. I was so inspired by this fresh, unexpected combination, and I hope you will be too!  I was inspired to create a little lilac and gold moodboard that captures the quiet luxury of this look! 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8  photos via Tara Fingold What do you all think of this colour combination?  What a gorgeous design Tara , and congratulations on the feature! xox To read the rest of my tips for Making a Rental Feel like Home, check out my article with Click Here!
